First Flush Festival

Timmy, Rachael and Kale were all jazzed up about the "First Flush Festival" at the Charleston Tea Plantation.  We took their advice and checked it out.  What a great event! Between Shadowy Live Oaks and Rows of Tea Plants, Mike Doughty from Soul Coughing played an aucoustic set to the 500 people enjoying a sunny day on Wadmalaw Island.  I was stoked on his version of "The Gambler" I was able to pop off some family portraits that you can see in the 2008 First Flush Gallery.

Finding Pura Vida Film Premiere

On Friday we did a local media promotion for the film.  Mike got us on with Rich at 105.5 the Bridge and from there we hauled ass to Mt Pleasant for our apperance on Lowcountry Live.  It was awesome.

Filmpremiere01

We sold out our block at the film festival.  It got really hectic trying to get all of our friends and family into the show at the last minute.  We ended up with Standing Room Only seats for most of the Macho Beach Noseriders.  It was all good in the end; we drank Stellas in the back as the fims rolled on.

When our film hit the screen it was a big thrill.  Standing next to Beefy, Mary, Farrah and Mitchell as the film was premiered was pretty cool as all of us had a big part in its creation.  It was an awesome feeling when we got a big cheer at the end of the film.  I wish I would have brought in my camera!  It was too hectic.  I did get a few photos at the after party and Beefy snapped a few shots as well.

We ended up raising a significant amount of money for the kids.  Ian and Sully unloaded a two hour set of great music as people enjoyed the grub and beer from Normandy Farms Woodys and Coast.

Thanks again to Quiksilver Foundation, Nalgene, Organic Process, Fuzzco, McKevlins, The Macho Beach Noseriders, BookSurge and the rest.  Big ups to Pat Lisi for his large donation.  Thanks to Bob Holt for opening his home for our cause.

Ted and Haley

Our cousin Ted got married to his bride Haley on an off-the-charts wedding weekend in Talahassee.

We loaded up the VW and headed down for the Festivities.

Thursday night they had the Steep Canyon Rangers play on the front porch of the Farm's Cabin.

Friday was a round at the Talahassee muni followed by a first-class dinner at the Govenor's Club downtown.

They got hitched on Saturday at the horse farm but not before the plantation lunch on Saturday afternoon that featured skeet shooting and a Par 3 private golf course.

The whole thing was capped off with Ted and Haley celebrating their union with friends and family as Complete Desire lit up the country club in a way that, in my guestimation, wont be repeated any time soon.

Macho Beach Noserider Official Surfboard

So Mike and I headed over to Mako's tonight to get the custom boards shaped up.  Mako (Paul Martin) pulled the template from my trusty 9'0 Takayama and started carving foam for me and Mike's replicas.

These are the first Macho Beach Noserider Official Surfboards.  Hey Oh.

Here is the logo we are putting on these pigs:

Went and checked out the Canoe and Kayak Festival at the James Island County Park.

Some cool boats out there available to demo.

If you are into flatwater paddling, and you should be here in Charleston, then it was like a big huge toy store.

Some cool dogs out there too.

Woody's Pizza Golf Tournament

It was a long 6 weeks to get all the matches played and the champion crowned.  Mike Ray took home the Pink Jacket beating Jay Culbreth in a 18 hole winner take all show down.  Mike clinched it on 15 in flower pants, a Tecate Hat, his Macho Beach Noserider shirt and orange shoes.

Bobby took out Laura for the third place trophy and a our foursome played behind them.  Moyer and EZ both played really well....me and Matt O....not so much.

Our next matchup on the links is our Captain's Choice tournament.

March 20.....Spring Swell

320811

Water is warming up on Folly....cracked 60 degress this week.

We got a nice little pulse that enabled for a full day swell.

Some solid sets in the morning coupled with some stiff offshores.

By the time the evening rolled around, the wind had died out a bit but so had the waves.  Even so, it was nice to get a session in before and after work.

Web of Water Project//Charleston Kids with Cameras

Leep_kwc14 We went out Sunday to welcome Ian Sanchez, Director of LEEP (www.scleep.org), home from his kayaking expedition.  Starting in the upstate and paddling all the way to the coast, the aim of this project is to introduce children to the outdoors while educating them about their natural surroundings.

The folks at Charleston Kids with Cameras came out with a great group of children to meet Ian.

After explaining his journey to them on the dock, he spent some time with each child, giving them a chance to climb into his kayak and imagine themselves out on the water.  All the while, they were snapping photos of their day with friends and mentors.

Who knows, next time Ian heads down the river, one of these kids might be paddling along with him!

A BABY BOY and a new Macho Beach Noserider

Our dear friends Mike and Amy welcomed a little homeboy into the world today.

Still waiting on the name, but all is good in the hood!

Congrats to the new parents.
